John Cratchley
In my younger days (long gone now) in the UK (also long gone now),I sat at the feet (actually,in some cases;metaphorically in others) of some truly great guitarists: Bert Jansch (RIP),John Renbourn (RIP),Wizz Jones,Martin Carthy,Martin Simpson,Richard Thompson...I learnt by watching and listening...asking (sometimes getting answers...sometimes not)...and then the Americans: Fahey,Basho,Kottke,Laing,Grossman...(later Jack Rose,Glenn Jones, lately William Tyler)...a lifetime of listening and trying to learn (but all these guys have the added ingredient of 'intuition' on top of sheer bloody hard work,so understanding was always tantalisingly out of reach,as was technique...a common story for thousands like me,I suspect).
So, when I add Daniel Bachman to that list of guitarists,I do not do it lightly or without some (albeit limited) insight.
He deserves to be there.
Here,he is on fire (the end of a tour) and he is so young you can practically feel the sap rising...
